“Getting old is not for sissies”                                              – Bettie Davis

Getting older is a challenge, there’s no question about it.  Creaky knees, achy back and various other ailments can make enjoying life in our “golden years” a challenge.  Nevertheless, I believe that if we put our minds and wills to it, we can have happy and productive lives going into our final chapters.  The primary purpose of this blog is to chronicle the highs and lows of my mid-life (and beyond) adventures.

My name is John Kevin Hickey, a.k.a. MrVintageMan and I am passionate about many things, including my wife (the inestimable MrsVintage), my children and my grandsons.  I have been a voracious reader since I was a wee lad. I am something of an autodidact (no, I’m not going to tell you what it means – look it up yourself).  I use my blog to review and recommend books that I think others might enjoy.

I am a bicyclist who loves riding simply for the joy of riding. I’m not interested racing or setting personal bests.  I intend to explore more of Colorado and parts of other western states on my bicycle and will post accounts of my various adventures.

I am also big into gardening, traveling, craft beer, writing and apparently, I’m something of a raconteur.  I am a fourth generation Colorado native, and I truly believe that Colorado is God’s Own Country.

I retired from the Air Force/Air National Guard after 30 years of service as an aircraft mechanic, and I’m an Iraqi Freedom veteran.  I also retired from Federal Civil Service after working for 25 years as an avionics technician.  Currently I work part-time mowing golf courses, and it’s a blast!

During the warmer months, when I am not at work or riding my bicycle, I can be found in my office.
